Gibson Dunn promotes 27 attorneys in the US and Europe

Women, minority and LGBTQ lawyers make up almost two-thirds of the cohort

In one of its most diverse rounds to date, Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, one of the top 15 US-based legal services firms have promoted 27 attorneys to partner across its offices in the US and Europe.

The 63 per cent diverse elect partners in the group include 12 women, 7 minority and LGBTQ+ lawyers. This is a step up from last year when 20 lawyers were promoted.

Welcoming the cohort, chairperson and managing director of Gibson Dunn, Barbara Becker said, "Each one of these lawyers has proven themselves to be trusted advisors in their respective areas. They have enhanced the collaborative relationship we share with our clients. This dynamic group also represents the diverse bench of talent across our global platform."

The firm has made the bulk of its promotions in its home country, with London and Paris the only offices out of its 10 in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia.

While data privacy and cyber-security specialist Vera Lukic got the nod in Paris, the London trio – Claibourne Harrison, Patrick Hennessy and Amar Madhani, are members of Gibson Dunn's mergers and acquisitions (M&A) practice. Their promotion follows shortly after the firm boosted its private equity M&A capabilities in London amid a booming market for corporate and private equity brand laterals.

In the US, the firm's New York office gained nine new partners, followed by six in Washington DC, three in Orange Country and two in its Los Angeles headquarters. Dallas welcomed tax lawyer Michael Cannon, San Francisco saw tech and life sciences focused corporate governance lawyer Aaron Briggs and Palo Alto hailed Cassandra Gaedt-Sheckter making up in the privacy, cyber-security and data innovation team.

The round was a mixed bag in terms of practice areas. Three lawyers in the M&A practice made up in the US alongside the trio in London, while two based in New York, were promoted in the litigation practice. In Washington DC, appellate and constitutional law experts Matthew Rozen and Jacob Spencer made the cut.

The fields of labour and employment, real estate and privacy, cyber-security and data innovation gained two new partners Lukic and Gaedt-Sheckter. In the securities regulation and corporate governance, both Julia Lapitskaya and Briggs made the grade.

One new partner was welcomed into nine practice areas – white collar defence and investigations, tax, environmental litigation and mass tort, securities litigation, business restructuring and re-organization, public policy, projects and infrastructure, government contracts and capital markets.
