Ropes & Gray, a legal firm, provided representation to NielsenIQ, a portfolio company of Advent International, in the successful culmination of its strategic merger with GfK SE, the largest market research company in Germany. This significant transaction brings together two prominent players in the global information services industry, forming the world's foremost consumer intelligence company. With a combined revenue exceeding $4 billion and a client base of over 30,000 across 100 countries, the newly formed entity solidifies its position as a leader in the field.

According to a press release, the integration of comprehensive and lucid insights into consumer purchasing behavior, coupled with cutting-edge technology platforms, will empower leading retailers and brands worldwide to discover fresh avenues for sustainable growth.

The strategic combination of NIQ and GfK brings together two companies that have independently made significant investments in omnichannel coverage, business intelligence tools, and predictive analytics. With unmatched global reach and industry expertise, the company is positioned to accelerate its growth by offering The Full View™ of consumer behaviour around the globe,” read the press release.

It was further mentioned in the press release, “The combined company unites complementary areas of expertise, fusing NIQ’s leading insights in fast-moving consumer goods and GfK’s deep understanding of consumer technology and durable goods. Together, thousands of existing and potential customers will have newfound access to actionable insights across the total store.”

The Ropes & Gray team, spearheaded by private equity partners Matthew Richards and Christian Westra, alongside private equity associate Konrad Thallner, played a pivotal role in the transaction. The team comprised a diverse range of legal experts, including tax partners David Saltzman and Andy Howard, employment partner Doug Brayley, capital markets partner Craig Marcus, litigation & enforcement partners Peter Welsh and Brendan Hanifin, data, privacy & cybersecurity partner Rohan Massey, and executive compensation & employee benefits partner Jenny Rikoski.
