Clifford Chance Bolsters Restructuring Team in New York with the Appointment of Two Partners
Global law firm Clifford Chance announced the expansion of its Restructuring and Insolvency practice with the addition of partners Brian J. Lohan and Maja Zerjal Fink in New York. Their appointments aim to further strengthen the firm's capabilities in handling complex domestic and international restructuring and insolvency matters.
Lohan and Zerjal Fink bring a wealth of experience across various restructuring scenarios, including corporate reorganisations, distressed situations, and bankruptcy proceedings. They have represented a diverse range of clients, including Chapter 11 debtors, noteholders, bondholders, lenders, creditor committees, and other involved parties, in both domestic and cross-border cases.
Sharis Pozen, Regional Managing Partner for the Americas, highlighted the duo's impressive experience and commitment to client service. “We are delighted to welcome this dynamic team with such impressive experience covering the full range of restructuring and bankruptcy matters. The addition of Brian and Maja is further proof that we remain fully focused on the needs of our clients and on building the best team in the market,” Pozen said.
Philip Hertz, Global Head of Restructuring and Insolvency, emphasised how Lohan and Zerjal Fink's expertise will enhance the firm's ability to provide seamless service across its global network. Their experience will be particularly valuable in handling intricate, multi-jurisdictional restructuring and insolvency proceedings. “We’re very excited to have them as part of the team,” Hertz stated.
Examples of the new partners' work include representing senior lenders and DIP lenders in high-profile cases like Cineworld and Hertz.
Lohan's background also includes advising Chapter 11 debtors such as IronNet, Dynegy Holdings, and Smurfit Stone Container Corporation. He has additionally represented senior creditors and DIP lenders in various cases.
Zerjal Fink's expertise extends to advising on prominent restructurings like those involving Puerto Rico, Caesars Entertainment Operating Corporation, and MF Global. Her practice also focuses on representing private equity sponsors, debtors (both domestic and foreign), lenders, creditors, and various stakeholders in bankruptcy proceedings and both in-court and out-of-court restructurings.
Both Lohan and Zerjal Fink expressed their enthusiasm about joining Clifford Chance's esteemed global platform. “Maja and I are excited to join Clifford Chance’s elite global platform. We look forward to contributing our experience to this leading Restructuring and Insolvency practice, and working alongside other practices to support clients around the world,” Lohan added.
This announcement comes on the heels of Clifford Chance's expansion in the US Energy & Infrastructure sector, with the hiring of partners Ty'Meka M. Reeves-Sobers and Marcia Hook last month in Washington, DC. These strategic additions demonstrate the firm's commitment to building a robust presence across key practice areas in the United States.
