He resumed the position after the retirement of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee

The President of India has appointed Justice H.S Thangkhiew, the senior-most judge of the Meghalaya High Court as its acting Chief Justice.

The notification issued by the government read, “In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Hamarsan Singh Thanglchiew, the judge of the Meghalaya High Court to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice consequent upon the retirement of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee.

Justice Thangkhiew did his LL.B from the University of Delhi in 1990. Thereafter, he enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh.

In 2010, he was designated as a senior advocate of the Guwahati High Court. In 2018, he assumed office as a judge of the Meghalaya High Court and in 2019 also served as its acting Chief Justice.
