Central government elevates Justice PB Varale of Bombay High Court as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court

The Central government has notified elevation of Justice PB Varale of the Bombay High Court as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, as per the recommendation of Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India UU Lalit last month.

Justice Varale, who is the senior-most judge at Bombay High Court, enrolled as an advocate in August 1985 practised under advocate SN Loya during his initial years. He also served as a lecturer at Ambedkar Law College in Aurangabad till 1992.

He was appointed a judge of the Bombay High Court on July 18, 2008.

Justice Varale will be the fourth judge from Bombay High Court to become the Chief Justice in Karnataka. The other three were former judges Justices SP Bharucha (January 1991-June 1992) and ML Pendse (July 1995-March 1996) and now Supreme Court judge Justice AS Oka (May 2019-August 2021).
