Ashoke Kumar Chakraborty appointed as the Additional Solicitor General for the Calcutta High Court.

The Department of Legal Affairs, under the Union Law and Justice Ministry, has announced the appointment of Veteran counsel Ashoke Kumar Chakraborty as the Additional Solicitor General for the Calcutta High Court.

The sudden resignation of Senior Counsel Y.J. Dastoor in April had left the post vacant for three months, and the responsibilities were handled jointly by senior counsel Billwadal Bhattacharya and Dhiraj Trivedi.

Chakraborty's appointment is also expected to give boost central agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in cases before the high court which two are probing

Chakraborty has been appointed for the post for a term of three years and aims to expedite the pending cases of the Union government in the Calcutta High Court.
