Khaitan & Co successfully advised and represented the Multiplex Association of India (“MAI”) before the Telangana High Court at Hyderabad making the court

modified its previous order dated 24th January 2025 which restricted the multiplexes and movie theatres from allowing children below sixteen years to watch movies

after 11:00 PM.

On 24th January 2025, the Hon’ble Telangana High Court had issued an order prohibiting children under sixteen years from watching movies after 11:00 PM in

multiplexes and theaters. This directive emerged from writ petitions challenging various Government Orders that granted permissions for enhanced ticket pricing,

additional screenings, and early morning shows for two major Telugu films - Game Changer and Pushpa-2.

The Khaitan team advised and assisted the Multiplex Association of India (MAI), the only national body of multiplex cinema operators, to file an application to

implead itself as a party to the writ petitions along with a petition to vacate the direction issued by the court, appearing on behalf of MAI before the Hon’ble Telangana

High Court.

Upon hearing the submissions made on behalf of MAI, the Telangana High Court vacated its earlier direction prohibiting minors below 16 years from watching

movies in multiplexes and theatres after 11:00 PM, noting that there existed no statutory restriction on the entry of minors during late night shows.

The Multiplex Association of India was represented by Sahil Narang (Partner), Dhritiman Roy (Counsel) along with Vidush Sinha (Associate).
