Argus, Anagram act on BCCI selling IPL digital rights to Disney and Viacom
The deal was valued at Rs. 48,390 crores
In the historic Indian Premier League (IPL) media rights auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sold IPL TV and digital rights for the Indian subcontinent for the 2023-2027 cycle.
While Disney Star retained the IPL television rights for Rs.23,575 crores (Rs.57.5 crores per game), the most sought-after India digital rights deal was acquired for Rs.20,500 crores by the Reliance-backed Viacom18, which also won the non-exclusive Package C, by paying an additional Rs.2,991 crores.
The deal makes IPL the second richest league in the world ahead of the English Premier League (EPL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). It is now the second sporting league after the United States National Football League (NFL) in terms of per match value.
Argus Partners advised BCCI on the deal. The team was led by Krishnava Dutt (Managing Partner), and Adity Chaudhury (Partner). They were assisted by Kshitija Naik (Senior Associate), Tushar Oberoy, Jinansh Shah (Associates), Nipuna Varman, Megha Saha, Amaan Rahman, and Srijoy Deb (Associates).
Anagram Partners acted for Viacom and the team was led by Shuva Mandal and Ankit Mishra (Partners). They were assisted by Keegan Pavrey (Senior Associate), and Vidhisha Ambade (Associate).
Disney Star was represented by its in-house team.
