Founding Father of law firm Anand and Anand NK Anand passes away
Nawal Kishore Anand, the founding father of law firm Anand and Anand passed away today morning.
Mr. N K Anand was the founding partner, referred to as the founding father, of Anand and Anand which is a pre-eminent IP practice and the topmost Tier 1 law firm in India as well as Asia recognized nationally and internationally for its expertise and innovative solutions resulting in ground-breaking developments in India’s IP jurisprudence.
He was also the head of Acme Company established in the year 1923. Acme is one amongst the oldest firm acting on behalf of clients for prosecution as well as enforcement of their Intellectual property rights.
Called to the Bar in the year 1956, Mr Anand was an established legal luminary who practiced in the arena of IP law for more than 60 years and has received several awards and accolades for his unsurpassed contribution in the field of IPR including the lifetime achievement award by AIPPI (India Group) from Justice S.M. Krishnan in recognition of his position as the founding father of AIPPI, world’s leading non-profit for development of laws for protection of IP.
Mr Anand was clearly a visionary who envisioned a strong IP regime in India at a time when India’s IP jurisprudence was regressive and the country was known for being a safe haven for pirates.
His practiced in the areas of Corporate Law; Copyright Law; Patent Litigation and Prosecution; Trademark Litigation; General Intellectual Property Practice, arbitration and Mediation.
Mr. Anand was Member of Bar Council of India; Supreme Court Bar Association; Delhi High Court Bar Association (Vice President, 1974-1976); International Bar Association (IBA).
He is known to be the Founder President of Indian Group of AIPPI (Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle or the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property), the world’s leading non-profit association dedicated to the development and improvement of laws for the protection of intellectual property.
He was also a member of the APAA (Asian Patent Attorneys Association) and Patent and Trademark Bar Association, ASSOCHAM.
Mr. N K Anand is the author of “Law Against Counterfeiting and Piracy” and “The Menace of Video Piracy”.
Mr. Anand did his schooling in Lahore. After graduating from the Hindu College in at Delhi University, he went on to study law from the prestigious Faculty of Law, Delhi University. Called to the Bar in year 1956, he practiced in the field of IP since.
