UK’s Bar Standards Board expedites Gaurav Pachnanda’s appointment as barrister in England and Wales
UK’s Bar Standards Board expedites Gaurav Pachnanda’s appointment as barrister in England and Wales
He was granted an unconditional exemption from all academic and vocational components of qualification and training
Senior advocate, Gaurav Pachnanda’s name has been fast-tracked by the Bar Standards Board (BSB) of the United Kingdom, appointing him as a barrister in England and Wales.
Pachnanda was recently called to the Bar at a formal ceremony. Held at the Middle Temple in London, it was presided over by The Right Hon Lord Lloyd-Jones, UK’s Justice of the Supreme Court.
General, BSB requires that foreign-qualified lawyers, including senior advocates, take some part of the Bar Transfer Test followed by a short pupillage as a precondition for being called to the Bar of England and Wales. However, the exemption is granted in exceptional cases. It is based on the assessment of a lawyer’s professional work, experience and expertise in law.
While Pachnanda practices as a senior advocate in Delhi, he also has a practice in international commercial arbitration in London and Singapore. He undertakes this from the Fountain Court Chambers in London and Singapore.
Pachnanda studied law at the University of Jammu and at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford, and was elected a Felix Scholar.
He has previously worked with P&A Law Offices, before resuming his independent practice. From 2010 to 2015, he was the senior additional advocate general for the State of Jammu and Kashmir before the Supreme Court. In 2011, he was designated as a senior advocate.
