Thiruvananthapuram: The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan derided Congress leaders everywhere making a beeline to join the ruling party of BJP for wealth and power. He said the grand old party was helping the saffron party’s membership drive.
Witnessing large defections from the Congress to the BJP in various states notably Karnataka and Goa, the Kerala CM decried the lack of leadership in the Congress saying the party has become like an orphan without a leader. He also said the Congress was helping in the BJP membership drive when the country was going through a difficult phase.
BJP’s money power has no limits and Congressmen were leaving the party like rats running after the pied piper, he said. In such situation it was the responsibility of the party to provide strong and good leadership. He said strong leadership was necessary both in good times as well as critical times. The CM said those in the Congress cannot be trusted and nobody knew who would leave the party next.
The Karnataka Congress Party President, Mullapally Ramachandran, however, asked the Kerala CM to look after his own party, CPI(M), and strengthen it at the national and state levels instead of interfering in the Congress internal affairs. He said the CPI(M) had received a severe drubbing at the recent Lok Sabha polls. He also said the Kerala CM had been thwarting Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to form a secular democratic front against the BJP at the national level.
