Hindustan Unilever Ltd legal head to retire next year
Dev Bajpai to call it a day on a long career spanning over three decades on 31 March 2022 to explore new avenues
Dev Bajpai, the incumbent legal head of India's largest consumer good company Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) is all set to pull the curtains down on a long career spanning over three decades.
The company Thursday announced that Bajpai would retire on 31 March 2022.
He has been donning many hats at the Hindustan Unilever Ltd including that of the Executive Director, Legal & Corporate Affairs and Company Secretary.
"Dev has played an outstanding role as a member of the Management Committee of HUL in the last decade. His sound advice on legal and corporate relations enabled HUL to navigate challenging issues and chart a growth journey seamlessly while maintaining the highest standards of Corporate Governance," Sanjiv Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Unilever Ltd, said.
An alumnus of Delhi University, Bajpai is a member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). He has been a member of the Company's management committee since May 2010. He was inducted as a whole-time director of Hindustan Unilever Ltd's board of directors in January 2017.
Bajpai is a veteran of three decades in the profession. Before joining Hindustan Unilever Ltd, he was associated with Maruti Udyog Ltd, Marico Ltd, Indian Hotels Company Ltd and ICICI Venture Funds Management Company.
"He (Bajpai) ensured that the largest M&A deal in the history of the FMCG sector was executed in a seamless manner. In the last several years, under his leadership, the Brand Protection team has set new benchmarks in controlling both online & offline counterfeiting," said Mehta in a release.
"I respect Dev's decision to retire and explore new avenues and opportunities including spending time in the field of social change," Mehta added.
