Air India-Vistara Merger, Major Consolidation In Indian Aviation Space
Air India-Vistara Merger, Major Consolidation In Indian Aviation Space
The integrated airline will operate over 5,600 weekly flights to more than 90 destinations
Air India has announced its merger with full-service carrier Vistara with Singapore Airlines, which has a 25.1 percent stake in the enlarged company.
(Vistara was a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines. Tata’s acquired the loss-making Air India from the government in January 2022).
The merger follows the consolidation of Air India Express and AIX Connect in October 2024.
The statement read, "Air India Group has completed the operational integration and legal merger between Air India and Vistara, creating a full-service carrier of scale and marking a significant milestone in the post-privatization transformation journey.”
Terming it a milestone, Campbell Wilson, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Air India stated that the merger completed the consolidation and restructuring phase of the Air India Group's post-privatization transformation journey.
He added, "Over the past two years, teams across the four airlines and other stakeholders worked to ensure that the transition of people, assets, operations and, importantly, customers, was seamless.”
