Jeffrey S. Whittle
Whittle has a global intellectual property practice and focuses on the energy industry. With an emphasis on technology-based transactions, his practice encompasses mergers and acquisitions, due diligence investigations and patent opinions. Whittle also focuses on patent protection, portfolio analysis and other various types of intellectual property contentious and counselling matters, including post grant patent challenges. “Jeff’s high-calibre practice and deep knowledge of the energy space will position us for continued success,” said Celine Crow son, head of the Americas IPMT practice of Hogan Lovells. “Jeff’s diverse practice will benefit our clients in a variety of ways, particularly with transactional matters as these are increasingly top of mind for clients.” Whittle has more than twenty years of experience and served as the head of his former firm’s Technology & Intellectual Property Law Section. He has been recognized by Chambers USA, IAM Licensing 250, IAM Patent 1000 and The Legal 500 United States for his work in law and intellectual property. “Jeff is a nationally recognized IP lawyer, and we are very pleased to have him join our growing Houston office,” said Bruce Oakley, managing partner of the firm’s Houston office. “Because Houston is a global energy capital, Jeff’s distinctive technical background and experience in energy will add great value for clients here and around the world.” In addition to his practice, Whittle is a member of legal associations including the Licensing Executives Society (where he is currently President Elect), American Intellectual Property Law Association and Federal Circuit Bar Association, among others. Whittle also has served on M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s Technology Review Committee, IP Law360’s Advisory Board, and on Wake Forest University School of Law’s Board of Visitors. He was recently awarded the 2015 Distinguished Service Award from the University of Houston Law Center. Whittle earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, M.B.A from Wake Forest University and J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law.
