Alex Harrison has been welcomed by Akin Gump as a partner in the firm's energy and renewables unit. From Hogan Lovells, where he served as head of the firm's power, renewables, and energy transition practice, Mr. Harrison joins the company's London office.
Mr. Harrison offers clients advice on a variety of topics, including power production, the transition to a clean energy economy, the development of greenfield and brownfield projects, project and structured financing, and the regulation of electricity. His expertise enhances Akin Gump's large global energy offering and boosts its transactions practice both domestically and abroad.
Mr. Harrison remarked, "I am delighted to be joining Akin Gump, a firm with an internationally recognized and successful energy practice. I am eager to collaborate with the firm's international offices and to improve the services provided by the London team."
Nuclear, wind, solar, biomass, hydro, energy storage, coal, gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) to power, and carbon capture and storage transactions are just a few of the energy-related topics that Mr. Harrison is well-versed in. Additionally, he offers clients advice on matters like electricity and emissions trading, acquisitions and sales in the thermal, low carbon, and renewable energy sectors, issues related to aggregation and digitalization, charging stations for electric vehicles, electrification of transportation, and the development, financing, and regulation of grid network infrastructure assets.
Kim Koopersmith, chairwoman of Akin Gump, said, "Alex is a major and important addition to our firm as we continue to build our global energy transition practice in these times of unprecedented transformation for the global energy sector. His expertise, status in the industry, and breadth of knowledge are all highly valued and will be very helpful to our clients.
The firm's co-head of its corporate practice and managing partner of Akin Gump's London office, Sebastian Rice, added, "Alex's entry also strengthens our London team and our global presence in the energy and renewables industry. His experience working on the significant U.K. and worldwide projects will be very beneficial to our international clientele.
