Reed Smith Strengthens its Asia-based Regulatory Practice with the appointment of Jill Wong
Reed Smith has expanded its Asian regulatory team by appointing Jill Wong as a Partner based in Hong Kong.
Prior to joining Reed Smith, Wong was a partner at Howse Williams, where she focused on banking and securities regulatory and compliance issues. Her professional experience also includes working at several prominent law firms, including Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, and King & Wood Mallesons. Additionally, she has worked in-house at Credit Suisse and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Wong is well-versed in banking and securities laws, data privacy, cybercrime, and financial crime issues, making her adept at handling both contentious and non-contentious matters. She provides clients with regular counsel on regulatory investigations, disciplinary inquiries, licensing, and business conduct issues concerning major regulators such as the Securities and Futures Commission, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
Additionally, Wong provides counsel on a range of emerging regulatory matters, including Web3, virtual asset trading and exchanges, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. She also works with various Hong Kong authorities, including the police, Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), Customs & Excise, the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (AFRC), and the Privacy Commissioner.
