Obrea Poindexter, Sean Ruff and Jeff Grossman join Cooley LLP
Financial services and Fintech experts Obrea Poindexter and Sean Ruff have joined Cooley LLP as partners in the firm's financial services regulatory practice group. They carry extensive experience advising clients on the complex and rapidly evolving Fintech and financial services regulatory landscape. They previously served as co-chairs of Morrison & Foerster's Fintech group.
Ms. Obrea has experience of offering her clients innovative solutions to sophisticated regulatory issues, and has counseled emerging companies as well as large financial institutions, retailers and technology companies on payment systems, lending, privacy concerns, data security, electronic delivery of information and electronic signatures.
Mr. Sean Ruff advises Fintech clients on regulatory and transactional matters, anti‐money laundering regulations, alternative lending structures, traditional and non‐traditional payments, and consumer financial services. He has led multiple money transmitter licensing initiatives for clients, including nationwide money transmitter licensing and change of control efforts, and regularly represents money transmitters regarding licensing and compliance matters before state agencies.
In a Press Release by Cooley, Kathleen Pakenham, Chair of Cooley's business department said, "Obrea and Sean are such highly regarded leaders in the financial services and Fintech space. Their deep industry knowledge will enhance our ability to serve Fintech companies and financial institutions, and we look forward to further building out the practice group in addition to our growing regulatory presence and litigation bench on the East Coast."
Jeff Grossman has joined Cooley's executive team as Chief Strategy and Legal Practice Officer. Earlier he was working with Citi, where he was global head of business development and advisory for the bank's Law Firm Group. During his tenure at Citi, Grossman helped the team grow and innovate the leading law firm banking business in the industry.
In a Press Release, Lisanne Morales, Cooley's Global Chief Operating and Financial Officer was quoted as saying, "Jeff has unparalleled insight into the issues of finance, competition and strategy related to the world's leading law firms. He will be integral in helping to take this firm's strategic planning, global operations and financial management to new heights of sophistication and delivery."
