Funds and PE Tax Partner David Nisbet to join Squire Patton Boggs in London
Funds and PE Tax Partner David Nisbet to join Squire Patton Boggs in London
David Nisbet is set to join Squire Patton Boggs as a partner in its Tax Strategy & Benefits Practice Group in London.
David, who specializes in tax and structuring in the funds and private equity sector, will join from Osborne Clarke where he has been a partner for over five years and leads the private equity tax team. He was previously at White & Case.
David advises multinational corporations, funds, financial sponsors, family offices, senior management teams and ultra-high net worth individuals on the tax implications of UK and cross-border investments, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, fund formations, reorganisations and financing transactions.
David’s hire is part of Squire Patton Boggs’ continued commitment to growing its market-leading private equity, funds and transactional practice, which was recognised at the British Private Equity Awards as “Law Firm of the Year”. This is part of the firm’s strategic European-wide project which has seen the Squire Patton Boggs private equity group treble in size over the past two years, with appointments of new partners and associates in London, Birmingham, Paris, Milan, Madrid and Frankfurt. The firm also announced the launch of two new PE focused offices in Dublin and Amsterdam with the hire of four market-leading partners and their teams.
Mitch Thompson, Chair of Squire Patton Boggs’ Tax Group, says, “We’re thrilled for David to join our global team. He is a sophisticated and versatile tax lawyer, deeply experienced in complex funds and private equity tax matters as well as the tax aspects of a broad range of UK and cross-border transactional and advisory issues.”
Steven Ward, who leads the firm’s Funds Practice in London, added, “David brings broad experience of advising financial sponsors and senior management teams on the tax and structuring aspects of strategic transactions. His knowledge of the sector is second to none and he also has valuable experience from a secondment as in-house tax counsel at a private equity fund in Luxembourg.”
David commented, “Squire Patton Boggs is an emerging powerhouse for mid-market private equity and M&A transactions across the UK and Europe. Joining a global firm, that has a stellar international tax practice, a market-leading PE group, as well as a fast-growing Funds team, is a great opportunity to take my practice to the next level. I am already familiar with many of the clients and lawyers at Squire Patton Boggs, so I look forward to working with them and to being part of the team.”
