Centre Re-Appoints Tushar Mehta as Solicitor General of India
The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has granted approval for the re-appointment of Tushar Mehta as the Solicitor General of India.
Mehta, who currently serves as the Solicitor General, will continue in this role for a period of three years starting from July 1, 2023, or until further orders, whichever comes first.
Additionally, the committee has also re-appointed Vikramjit Banerjee, KM Nataraj, Balbir Singh, SV Raju, N Venkataraman, and Aishwarya Bhati as Additional Solicitors General (ASGs) in the Supreme Court.
The terms of Madhavi Diwan, Sanjay Jain and Jayant K Sud as ASGs have come to an end.
Tushar Mehta’s journey as the Solicitor General began in October 2018 when he was appointed as an Additional Solicitor General.
Recognizing his legal prowess and invaluable contributions, the Centre re-appointed him as the Solicitor General in June 2020, for a three-year term commencing on July 1, 2020.
