US Chamber Of Commerce To Sue President Donald Trump Over Newly Publicized Tariffs
States that using emergency powers to raise fares was illegal
The United States Chamber of Commerce (CoC), corporate America’s biggest lobby, is contemplating legal action against President Donald Trump’s administration to impede the newly announced tariffs.
Representing millions of businesses of all sizes, the potential lawsuit could shield companies hesitant to publicly oppose the President's policy for fear of retribution.
However, the legal stance to be adopted by the group (funded by some industry biggies), is yet to be decided.
It may stress that Trump's use of emergency powers to impose tariffs was illegal.
Recently, such a suit was filed by the New Civil Liberties Alliance, a nonprofit public interest law firm. It held that under the 50-year-old International Emergency Economic Powers Act, the President had no right to impose tariffs.
