TMI Associates Strengthens Malaysian Presence Through Partnership With SY Teo & Co
TMI Associates Strengthens Malaysian Presence Through Partnership With SY Teo & Co
Tokyo-based law firm TMI Associates is expanding its reach in Southeast Asia by establishing a new base in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This move marks their second collaboration in the nation, consolidating their presence in the region.
The partnership involves SY Teo & Co, a Malaysian law firm led by Sze Yi Teo. Notably, Teo is a foreign attorney at TMI Associates' Singapore office and holds legal qualifications in both Malaysia and Singapore. She brings a wealth of experience in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and other corporate legal matters to the table.
This is not TMI Associates' first foray into the Malaysian legal landscape. Since September 2015, they have been collaborating with Chooi & Company, a Malaysian law firm, through a dedicated "Malaysia desk" established within TMI's Singapore office. This collaboration has seen them tackle various legal issues, including M&A, litigation, real estate development, labour disputes, fraud investigations, and intellectual property rights.
The new partnership with SY Teo & Co signifies a strategic shift. While the collaboration with Chooi & Company will continue to handle complex cases like disputes and large-scale projects, the Kuala Lumpur base established through SY Teo & Co will provide a platform for more flexible and comprehensive legal services. This two-pronged approach caters to a wider range of legal needs in Malaysia.
