PDLegal Expands With First Overseas Office in Thailand
PDLegal Expands With First Overseas Office in Thailand
Singapore-based law firm PDLegal has expanded its reach into Southeast Asia with the official launch of its first overseas office in Bangkok, led by seasoned M&A and commercial transactions lawyer Papon Charaoenpao, formerly of Baker McKenzie.
Expanding on its 2021 India desk launch, PDLegal's Bangkok office marks another step in its regional growth strategy. Established by disputes lawyer Peter Doraisamy, a former partner at Duane Morris & Selvam, in 2017, the firm aims to solidify its presence in Southeast Asia.
Fresh from his seven-year stint at Baker McKenzie's Bangkok office (2016-2023), Papon Charaoenpao brings expertise in M&A, financial services, venture capital, and cutting-edge fintech, including Web3 projects, to PDLegal's Bangkok venture.
The newly established Bangkok branch will dedicate its expertise to corporate transactions and advisory services, encompassing cross-border investments, fintech and Web3 technologies, digital currencies, and international arbitration, among other areas.
“The launch of PDLegal Asia (Thailand) is in line with our promise to serve our clients’ regional ambitions. This expansion will enable us to grow alongside our clients, wherever their business interests take them,” Doraisamy said in a statement.
According to Papon Charaoenpao, the presence of the Bangkok office creates significant value for the firm's clientele in Singapore seeking to conduct business in Thailand, while simultaneously fostering a rapidly growing domestic client base.
“The firm already serves a number of local Thai clients, and continues to expand on local clients; additionally, in the short span that we have opened our office so far, regional clients have been pleased that we are now able to provide more comprehensive and cross-border legal services in a seamless manner,” Papon Charaoenpao added.
PDLegal's website lists eight partners, including Nazim Khan, who joined as a senior partner from UniLegal in March 2022, and Wei Hong Ling, who transitioned from an in-house role at insurance company Marsh in October 2022.
