Nokia Seals 6th Major Smartphone Patent Deal with Vivo, Nearing Licensing Cycle Completion
Nokia Seals 6th Major Smartphone Patent Deal with Vivo, Nearing Licensing Cycle Completion
Nokia has announced the finalisation of a multi-year patent cross-licensing agreement with Chinese smartphone giant Vivo, resolving all ongoing legal disputes between the two companies. This marks Nokia's sixth major smartphone patent deal in just 13 months, bringing its licensing renewal cycle close to completion.
Following similar agreements with Oppo, Apple, Samsung, Honor, and Huawei, the Vivo deal grants access to essential patents in cellular technologies, including 5G. Both parties have agreed to keep the specific terms confidential. To settle past conflicts, Vivo will make royalty payments to Nokia, including additional "catch-up" payments for the disputed period.
"This agreement with Vivo is another significant step in securing long-term stability for our licensing business," said Jenni Lukander, President of Nokia Technologies. "With six major deals finalized in just over a year, we are nearing the completion of our smartphone licensing renewal cycle."
This news signifies continued progress for Nokia in securing its intellectual property rights and generating revenue from its extensive patent portfolio.
