Seyfarth Boosts Labor & Employment Department With Addition Of Three-Lawyer Team
Seyfarth Shaw LLP has welcomed a notable three-lawyer team to its labor and employment department, reinforcing its service offerings nationally and internationally. The team, previously with Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP, comprises prominent employment litigators Clifford “Seth” Sethness, Kent Roger, and Taylor Horn.
Sethness, now a partner in Seyfarth's Labor & Employment department based in Los Angeles, brings over two decades of experience as a leading labor and employment attorney. His extensive track record includes handling various employment litigation cases across federal and state courts and arbitrations. Notably, Sethness has been recognized for his exceptional work by Legal 500 US and Daily Journal California’s Top Labor and Employment Lawyers, as well as Best Lawyers in America.
Joining Sethness are Kent Roger, appointed as senior counsel, and Taylor Horn, as counsel, both stationed in the firm’s San Francisco office. Roger specializes in labor and employment and antitrust litigation, focusing on industries such as maritime, energy, technology, and transportation. He is recognized as a leading antitrust litigation lawyer by Best Lawyers in America. Horn's practice revolves around representing companies in employment disputes, including family and medical leave, wage and hour issues, and workplace discrimination.
Laura Maechtlen, chair of Seyfarth’s national Labor & Employment department, expressed enthusiasm about the trio's addition said “Seth Sethness, Kent Roger, and Taylor Horn are outstanding additions to our top-tier team of Labor and Employment lawyers. They will play an important, strategic role in developing further our Employment Litigation and Counsel Practice group with their vast experience and record of achievement and a client base that provides great synergy with Seyfarth’s.”
Seth Sethness has garnered widespread recognition for his exceptional work across the spectrum of employment litigation, spanning federal and state courts as well as arbitrations. His extensive experience includes a tenure with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) before his tenure at Morgan Lewis.
His cases encompass a wide range, from a federal court wage-hour class action seeking over $1 billion in damages, to multi-plaintiff discrimination and retaliation claims, to contentious single-plaintiff termination and failure to promote cases.
Sethness boasts a track record of over 35 jury and bench trials and arbitration hearings, covering various issues such as race discrimination, sexual harassment, disability accommodation, retaliation, wage and hour violations, unfair competition, whistleblowing, breach of employment contract, and age discrimination. This experience extends across both state and federal courts, alongside handling numerous labor and employment arbitration trials.
Acknowledged as a preeminent labor and employment lawyer, Sethness has been featured in esteemed publications such as the Legal 500 US and Daily Journal California’s Top Labor and Employment Lawyers. He has also consistently appeared in the Best Lawyers in America listings over the past decade. Sethness holds an LLM from Georgetown University Law Center, a JD from George Washington University Law School, and a BA from Denison University.
“I am thrilled to be a part of Seyfarth’s labor and employment practice, which is renowned for its breadth and depth of expertise in the field. With one of the largest and most experienced labor-employment groups in the U.S., Seyfarth is the perfect destination for me and clients I have worked with for years,” said Sethness. “I look forward to contributing to the firm's continued success and serving our clients with the highest level of dedication and professionalism."
Kent Roger specializes in representing clients in labor and employment and antitrust litigation and investigations, with a specific focus on industries such as maritime, energy, high-technology, automotive and mobility, and transportation. He handles a wide array of cases, including class action lawsuits and complex business disputes, both at trial and on appeals, as well as in arbitrations.
Roger's expertise extends to maritime labor and employment issues, alleged cartels, monopolies, predatory pricing, and other matters related to unfair competition. He is widely recognized as a leading antitrust litigation lawyer, earning acclaim from institutions like Best Lawyers in America.
He holds a JD from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and an AB with distinction from the University of California, Berkeley.
Taylor Horn specializes in representing companies in both single-plaintiff and class action employment matters. His practice is primarily focused on handling disputes related to family and medical leave, complex wage and hour issues, workplace discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, and representative actions brought under California’s Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA).
Horn received his JD from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and his BSW from the University of Utah.
