Moody’s elevates Richard Steele as Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Moody’s elevates Richard Steele as Senior Vice President and General Counsel
He will oversee the company’s global legal and compliance functions
American business and financial services company, Moody's Corporation has announced the elevation of Richard Steele as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. He succeeds John Goggins, who’s retiring after serving the company for over 24 years.
Steele joined Moody’s KMV Steele in 2006 as Chief Legal Officer and was appointed General Counsel of Moody’s Analytics on its formation in 2008. Ever since, he guided its acquisitions and go-to-market strategies as the company evolved from a distributor of credit research to a leading provider of data, analytics, and insights as part of the global integrated risk offerings.
Rob Fauber, the President, and CEO of Moody’s remarked, “Steele has played an integral role in the creation and expansion of Moody’s Analytics for the past 15 years, providing critical legal support for new product development, sales, and acquisitions.”
Fauber added, “His long history of supporting the growth and evolution of our business, deep experience with intellectual property and technology matters, including as a key adviser for important aspects of our artificial intelligence strategy, and thorough understanding of litigation and regulatory landscape, will help ensure that Moody’s is well positioned for the future.”
Steele received a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego, and a J.D. from the University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco.
He was earlier a corporate lawyer at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and represented a range of public and private high-tech companies in venture capital, M&A, and capital market transactions.
Steele also held several senior in-house legal positions at firms, including MSCI Barra, specializing in financial technology, software, and venture capital. He also served as a clerk to David M. Ebel on the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
Moody’s is a global integrated risk assessment firm that empowers organizations to make better decisions. Its data, analytical solutions, and insights help decision-makers identify opportunities and manage the risks of doing business.
