Meenal Maheshwari Assumes The Role Of Group General Counsel At Angel One
Angel One Ltd., a prominent brokerage and trading platform, has recently announced the appointment of Meenal Maheshwari Shah as its Group General Counsel. In this pivotal role, Shah will spearhead efforts to fortify the legal and policy functions within the organisation.
Meenal boasts a distinguished 14-year legal career, adeptly handling a wide range of transactions. She thrives in navigating intricate legal environments and offers keen strategic advice on legal, policy, and regulatory issues. Her proven leadership as General Counsel has provided invaluable guidance to companies across India and internationally.
An alumna of ILS Law College Pune, Class of 2010, Meenal commenced her professional journey by working with prestigious law firms such as Khaitan & Co., Anand and Anand, Amarchand Mangaldas, and Lexorbis. She gained valuable experience while serving as counsel at the Chambers of Snehal Shah. Additionally, she expanded her legal knowledge by assuming the role of Senior Legal Counsel at the private equity investment arm of Bennett, Coleman, and Company's Brand Capital India.
Most recently, Meenal served as the Legal Director & Data Protection Officer at Lemmatree, the investment arm of Temasek. In this leadership role, she spearheaded the development of robust legal and compliance functions. Her expertise was leveraged by the leadership team as she provided insightful guidance on complex legal, compliance, policy, and regulatory matters. Additionally, Meenal offered comprehensive legal and compliance support to Lemmatree's portfolio companies, ensuring their products and operations adhere to all relevant regulations.
In her role as Angel One's Group General Counsel, Meenal prioritises strengthening the legal and policy functions. Her expertise lies in collaborating with businesses to establish corporate entities and governance frameworks. Additionally, she excels in designing and implementing effective processes and policies, contributing to the strategic success of organisations.
In her impactful career, Meenal has earned recognition as one of the Top 50 General Counsels by Forbes India in 2022. Her tenure as the Group Legal Director & Data Protection Officer at Lemmatree PTE Ltd was instrumental in establishing the legal function. Before joining Lemmatree, she held leadership roles in prestigious organisations, including the Essar Group and Times of India. Before her in-house counsel roles, she practised law at Khaitan & Co.

Before joining Lemmatree, Meenal spearheaded Essar Group's global and domestic transactions, overseeing contract and risk advisory responsibilities. She provided counsel on a wide range of commercial contracts, transactions, and legal risk management. Her transactional expertise encompassed diverse areas such as investments, financings, refinancings, mergers and acquisitions, asset sales, business transfers, and internal restructuring.
