Masahiko Ishida Takes Helm as Sole Country Managing Partner at DLA Piper Japan
Masahiko Ishida Takes Helm as Sole Country Managing Partner at DLA Piper Japan
Global law firm DLA Piper has announced a new era for its Japanese operations with the appointment of Masahiko Ishida as the sole country managing partner. This strategic move comes as longtime co-managing partner, corporate veteran Lance Miller, steps down to pursue retirement.
After a year of shared leadership as co-managing partners, Masahiko Ishida takes sole command as DLA Piper Japan's Country Managing Partner, succeeding the retiring Lance Miller after his association with the firm that lasted for 18 years.
Under their joint leadership, DLA Piper Japan has experienced significant success in recent years. The firm has expanded its client base, broadened its practice areas, and established itself as a leading player in the Japanese legal market. Ishida's appointment signifies a seamless transition and a commitment to building upon this strong foundation.
“As a world-class city, Tokyo plays a critical role in our long-term strategy and vision for DLA Piper in Asia. I have every confidence in Ishida’s ability to continue growing our business in Japan, and I look forward to seeing the Tokyo office develop under his leadership,” DLA Piper regional managing partner Satpal Gobindpuri said.
With over two decades of guiding multinational clients through M&A, private equity, venture capital, and corporate governance challenges, Ishida brings invaluable experience and expertise to his dual role as Country Managing Partner and head of the corporate practice.
Dual qualifications in Japan and the US, coupled with pre-legal experience as an investment banker, equip Ishida with a unique understanding of both legal intricacies and market realities, enriching his leadership at DLA Piper Tokyo since 2011.
