Korea’s Bae Kim & Lee Strengthens Real Estate Practice With David Pyun
Seoul-based law firm Bae Kim & Lee (BKL) has expanded its real estate capabilities with the appointment of senior U.S. attorney David Pyun from local rival Kim & Chang.
David Pyun joins BKL after an illustrious career spanning over seven years at Kim & Chang, where he served as a foreign attorney Partner. His extensive expertise encompasses Real Estate, Corporate Finance, and cross-border investments, making him a pivotal addition to BKL's legal team.
Pyun, who holds dual qualifications in New York and California, commenced his legal journey as an associate at Mayer Brown in 2002. He later held positions at Cox, Castle & Nicholson and Allen, Matkins, Leck, Gamble, Mallory & Natsis before joining Yulchon in 2010 as a foreign attorney Partner.
At BKL, Pyun assumes a Partner-equivalent role, focusing on advising major international private equity firms and financial investors. His practice includes structuring acquisitions, financing, and operations for real estate properties, development projects, and investment platforms in South Korea. Pyun is also instrumental in guiding South Korean asset managers and financial institutions on Global Real Estate investments, encompassing subsidiary setup, acquisitions, joint ventures, and dispute resolution.
Recent highlights of Pyun's portfolio include overseeing significant transactions such as the acquisition of logistics centers across South Korea, Europe, and the United States. He has also been involved in high-profile deals concerning office buildings, mixed-use properties, and luxury hotels both domestically and internationally. His expertise extends to managing workouts, refinancing, and resolving disputes related to client assets.
