Kirkland & Ellis appoints Investment Funds Partner John Senior in New York
Kirkland & Ellis appoints Investment Funds Partner John Senior in New York
Kirkland & Ellis has announced that John Senior will join the firm as a Partner in the Investment Funds Group of the New York office.
"John is a talented lawyer who brings substantial experience across the range of issues related to the formation and operation of investment funds, as well as secondary and other fund-related transactions," said Jon A. Ballis, Chairman of Kirkland's Executive Committee.
"We are excited to add him to our top-tier investment funds team, which continues to attract many of the industry's brightest stars," Ballis added.
John Senior has extensive experience advising sponsors on the organization and operation of private investment funds, as well as advising sponsors and investors in strategic secondary transactions.
Since 2016, he has advised on capital raises of over $70 billion in commitments across various investment strategies, including buyout, infrastructure, real estate, natural resources, social impact, and venture capital. He also guides clients on internal partnership arrangements, succession planning, regulatory compliance, and fund-related transactions.
"John is an impressive lawyer who has built a strong practice and outstanding reputation for his work in the investment funds area," said John O'Neil, head of Kirkland's Investment Funds Group based in New York. "He is a great fit for Kirkland and we are excited to get him integrated into our market-leading platform for investment fund formation and management."
"Joining Kirkland was an easy decision," said Senior. "Amid a changing market and regulatory environment, there is simply no other firm that can match the resources Kirkland brings to bear in service of its clients. I'm thrilled to be joining the team and excited to be part of the next chapter of the Investment Funds Group's growth."
Named a Rising Star for Investment Funds by IFLR1000, Senior is also a recognised thought leader who has spoken on fund formation matters at a variety of industry conferences and panels.
Senior joins Kirkland from the New York office of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, where he was a partner in the investment funds practice group. Before attending law school, he served as a Foreign Service Officer with the US State Department, where he held diplomatic postings in India and Bulgaria, and as a US negotiator in the United Nations Security Council. He holds degrees from the New York University School of Law and Georgetown University.
