Intl Head Of Dispute Resolution Elected Next Managing Partner By Simmons
Emily Monastiriotis will take over from her predecessor Jeremy Hoyland in May
Simmons & Simmons has elected its international head of dispute resolution, Emily Monastiriotis, as the firm’s next Managing Partner.
Monastiriotis will take over from her predecessor Jeremy Hoyland, who has held the position since 2011.
Monastiriotis is widely recognized and has held many senior leadership roles at Simmons, which she joined in 2017 after serving as head of construction disputes at Bond Dickinson (now Womble Bond Dickinson).
In 2021, Monastiriotis took over from Paul Baker as UK head of disputes after he decided to join Quinn Emanuel. In 2022, she took over from Hans-Herman Aldendorff as global head of disputes.
Monastiriotis specializes in construction disputes and fire safety cases and advises on construction arbitration cases, including in the UAE.
Monastiriotis has helmed many initiatives, leveraging technology including AI to improve legal practice.
Senior Partner Julian Taylor reportedly said: “Emily is a highly effective, forward-thinking and inspiring leader who will bring a wealth of experience to the role of managing partner. I look forward to working with her to build on the firm’s successes and seize future opportunities.”
While Monastiriotis reportedly said: “It’s a privilege to have been elected to this role by the partnership. Simmons has a strong sector-led, international growth foundation thanks to [Hoyland’s] remarkable leadership.”
As per Legal Business, Monastiriotis was selected from a shortlist which included Mahrie Webb, head of financial markets, who joined in 2014; Alexander Brown, head of TMT, who joined in 1997; and Darren Oswick, head of tax, who qualified with the firm in 2001.
