BCLP Names Steve Baumer as New Global CEO in Leadership Transition
BCLP Names Steve Baumer as New Global CEO in Leadership Transition
As part of an agreed succession plan, Steve Baumer, the current co-chair of the global law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP), is poised to assume the role of global CEO at the firm.
As part of this transition, BCLP is poised to shift towards a unified leadership structure in 2024, discontinuing the existing practice of appointing firmwide co-chairs. Baumer, the current co-chair of BCLP, took on the co-chair position alongside Lisa Mayhew, after stepping down as the head of BCLP's global transactions practice.
Following Bryan Cave's merger with Berwin Leighton Paisner in 2018, Baumer succeeded Therese Pritchard as the chair of the legacy Bryan Cave firm. During the merger, Mayhew, the former managing partner of Berwin Leighton Paisner, became part of the leadership team alongside Baumer.
Under Baumer's co-leadership with Mayhew, BCLP experienced notable enhancements in its financial performance despite navigating the intricacies of a transatlantic merger amid a global pandemic and geopolitical uncertainties.
“I look forward to working with our talented partners and colleagues to build upon our culture of collaboration, leveraging the investments we made in our global platform and growth engines to help our clients with the challenges and opportunities that matter the most,” Baumer stated.
Mayhew has decided to step down as co-chair, concluding her impactful tenure as one of the few women in the legal industry to lead a major global law firm. Throughout her time in this leadership position, Mayhew utilised her platform effectively, driving substantial improvements in performance, spearheading business transformation initiatives, and solidifying BCLP's international presence.
“The foundation for the firm’s continued growth is firmly in place. Steve has the experience, the drive and the team spirit to take us to the next level. Having served with him as co-chair, I look forward to working closely with him during this transition,” Mayhew said.
