Baker McKenzie Names New Chair to Lead Global Arbitration Team
Baker McKenzie Names New Chair to Lead Global Arbitration Team
Baker McKenzie, a prominent global law firm, has appointed partner Andy Moody as the new chair of the firm's Global International Arbitration Steering Committee. The effective date of his appointment is July 1, 2023.
Moody joined Baker McKenzie in 2016. Apart from leading the dispute resolution practice in London, he is an accomplished advocate with extensive expertise in advising clients on various matters, including international, commercial, and investment treaty arbitration, complex multijurisdictional litigation, mediations, expert determinations, as well as issues related to private and public international law
Moody handles exclusively cross-border work, representing clients in various sectors such as energy, financial services, aviation, diversified industrials, and telecommunications. As the new chair of the Global International Arbitration Steering Committee, he succeeds Ed Poulton, who will continue to serve as the managing partner of the Baker McKenzie London office.
“At a time when there is so much disruption in the world affecting our clients and leading to cross-border disputes, I am honoured and delighted to take over the leadership of our global arbitration group. We are seeing so many developments causing disputes from the continued impact of the Russia/Ukraine war, ongoing challenges from high inflation, ever-increasing government interventions, and the energy crisis and transition. It is also a time when international arbitration will continue to be at the forefront of helping our global clients achieve their commercial objectives and thus an exciting time for our group,” Moody stated.
Moody praised Ed Poulton's leadership, stating that he has done an exceptional job leading their group in recent years. Moody expressed his delight in taking over the baton from Poulton.
“We are growing as an ever more diverse group with a superb team across the globe, including our newly promoted partners, and I look forward to helping foster our future success,” Moody added.
In June 2023, Baker McKenzie celebrated the promotion of six new arbitration practitioners to the partnership in various regions, including Europe, Asia, and the US. The newly appointed partners are Markus Altenkirch in Dusseldorf, Carmen Alonso in Madrid, Emmanuel Chua in Singapore, Philipp Hanusch in Hong Kong, Laura Zimmerman in New York, and Javier Navarro-Treviño in Monterrey.
