Baker Botts, the international law firm, has recently announced the addition of Shane Wilson as a partner in its Dubai office, strengthening its Global Projects Department. With a vast background in the Middle East, Africa, and other regions, Wilson brings valuable knowledge and expertise in guiding clients on projects and transactions related to energy, technology, and life sciences.
“The admission of Shane bolsters our on-the-ground projects capabilities in the Middle East and gives us a more diversified practice in the region,” John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts said.
Having accumulated over 16 years of experience in Dubai, Wilson has built a reputation as a trusted advisor in the region. His practice is primarily cantered around the development and financing of energy and infrastructure projects, spanning various sectors including power, water, waste management, oil and gas, infrastructure, and transportation.
Throughout his career, Wilson has represented a diverse range of stakeholders, including lenders, governments, project sponsors, and project companies.
Wilson has worked on numerous projects across multiple jurisdictions, including those in the energy, utilities, oil and gas, infrastructure, and metals sectors.
“Shane has extensive regional experience, and the combination of his experience and our platform will help grow our projects practice in the Middle East,” said Mark Rowley, Partner-in-Charge of London and the Middle East at Baker Botts.
Wilson's expertise extends to advising on Shari'ah-compliant projects, showcasing his deep understanding of Islamic principles. He has collaborated closely with sponsors and Islamic financiers, employing his knowledge to structure projects in accordance with Shari'ah guidelines.
“I am delighted to have joined Baker Botts, a premier global energy law firm that plays strongly with my practice. I am very excited to not only help strengthen our growing Dubai practice but to also expand our Riyadh client offering,” Wilson stated.
Before joining Baker Botts, Wilson had a nearly six years stint as a partner at Squire Patton Boggs in Dubai. Prior to that, he held a partner position at Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co for nine years. Wilson also gathered extensive experience in international law, having worked at reputed law firms such as Vinson & Elkins and Norton Rose Fulbright.
