Atsumi & Sakai Strengthens International Projects And M&A Practice With Alan Kitchin

Atsumi & Sakai Strengthens International Projects And M&A Practice With Alan Kitchin
Atsumi & Sakai has expanded its international projects and M&A practice with the addition of Alan Kitchin, former managing partner of Ashurst’s Tokyo office. His appointment aligns with the firm’s ongoing strategy to enhance its capabilities in international projects, project finance, and cross-border M&A.
“With the joining of Mr Kitchin our firm’s practice in international projects and project finance is further strengthened. This has been a consistent initiative of our firm to continually strengthen our capability in international projects, project finance and cross-border M&A transactions,” the firm stated.
Kitchin, now based in Atsumi & Sakai’s Tokyo office, is a registered foreign lawyer in Japan for UK laws and a solicitor of England & Wales. He will lead the firm’s international projects and M&A practice.
Kitchin previously ran his own practice, Simpson Kitchin, in London before joining Atsumi & Sakai. He founded Ashurst’s energy group in 1987 and established the firm’s Tokyo office in 1989. He served as Ashurst’s Tokyo managing partner for 15 years and later led its Asian practice following the launch of the Singapore office. Prior to that, he was a senior partner at Clifford Chance’s Tokyo office.
For decades, Kitchin has advised on global projects, project finance, and international M&A, representing major Japanese clients, including government-owned financial institutions, export credit agencies, banks, and trading houses. His addition to Atsumi & Sakai is expected to further bolster the firm’s expertise in these areas.
