EU Court Penalizes European Commission For Breaching General Data Protection Regulation

The European Union General Court has ruled that the European Commission must pay 400 euros ($412) in damages to a German citizen for failing to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The court held that the Commission transferred the citizen's data to the US without safeguards and ordered it to compensate him.
The individual had used the ‘Sign in with Facebook’ option on the EU login webpage to register for a conference.
The court, which hears actions taken against EU institutions, noted that the transfer of the user's IP address to Meta Platforms in the US violated EU data protection rules.
Europe's GDPR is regarded as one of the most comprehensive and stringent data privacy laws worldwide.
Earlier, major companies including Klarna, Meta and LinkedIn have faced significant fines from the EU for non-compliance with the norms.
