Baker McKenzie Advised Ooredoo Group On Strategic Partnership With Iron Mountain

Baker McKenzie Advised Ooredoo Group On Strategic Partnership With Iron Mountain
Baker McKenzie has advised Ooredoo Group on a landmark strategic partnership with Iron Mountain, a global leader in information management services. As part of the transaction, Iron Mountain will acquire a minority equity stake in MENA Digital Hub, Ooredoo’s carrier-neutral data centre company.
With data centres across the MENA region, Ooredoo Group aims to expand its hyperscale and AI data centre infrastructure through this partnership. The collaboration will combine Ooredoo’s regional expertise in development and operations with Iron Mountain’s global operational capabilities, strengthening MENA Digital Hub’s market position.
As part of its broader strategy to focus on core operations and capitalize on the increasing demand for digital infrastructure, Ooredoo established MENA Digital Hub to lead digital transformation in the region. The company plans to invest USD 1 billion in the medium term to expand its data centre capacity beyond 120 megawatts. With facilities across five markets and strong partnerships with key hyperscalers, Ooredoo is well-positioned to leverage growth opportunities in the sector and maximize its business and financial outcomes.
Baker McKenzie’s cross-border legal team was led by Dubai Corporate Partner Adnan Doha and London Corporate Partner Charles Whitefoord, with support from corporate associates Nicole Galledari, Ololade Odunubi, and Ethan McAuliffe.
The broader Baker McKenzie team included Steve Holmes (TMT Partner, London), Alistair Craig (Tax Partner, London), Taras Varava (Tax Senior Associate, London), Geoff Martin (Compliance & Investigations Partner, Washington DC), Hugo Jay (Real Estate Senior Associate, London), Kate Austins (Real Estate Associate, London), Anastasia Boonen-Vaes (Corporate Associate, Netherlands), and Willem Jan Treuren (Corporate Associate, Netherlands).
Commenting on the transaction, Adnan Doha said: “We are delighted to have worked with Ooredoo Group on this strategic transaction, which will accelerate the expansion of its data centre platform and support its future growth. It is another important transaction for our busy digital infrastructure teams in Dubai and London and demonstrates the strength and expertise of our cross-border team.”
The Ooredoo Group legal team was led by its General Counsel, Georges Abi Saab. Georges Abi Saab commented: “This landmark partnership enables us to expand our MENA footprint of hyperscale and AI data centre infrastructure. The successful completion of this transaction is a testament to the outstanding efforts of the Baker McKenzie team, working closely with us to achieve this transaction.”
Moelis & Company acted as the financial adviser to Ooredoo Group, while A&O Shearman provided legal counsel to Iron Mountain.
