Amazon Loses Appeal Against 746 Million Euro Fine By National Commission For Data Protection

Amazon has lost its appeal against a 746 million euro fine by Luxembourg’s National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) in 2019, for violating European Union (EU) privacy laws.
The country's administrative court ruled in favor of the regulator, affirming the penalty related to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) breaches.
The multinational technology company was penalized for processing users’ data. Europe is taking strict action against such violations. Its landmark law has set the benchmark for other countries.
CNPD said its decision, including measures for Amazon to fix the issue, will remain suspended during the appeal.
While considering filing another appeal, Amazon said, “The CNPD decision imposed an unprecedented fine based on subjective interpretations of the law about which they had not previously published any interpretive guidance."
