Ali Abbas Zafar, Director of web series 'Tandav', and others have been denied interim protection from arrest to seeking quashing of FIRs against them by the Apex Court for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of Hindus and issued notices Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and other states on their pleas.
The Supreme Court bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and M R Shah was hearing three separate petitions of Zafar, producer Himanshu Mehra, the show's writer Gaurav Solanki, actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Aparna Purohit – Amazon Prime India head.
The bench has sought responses from the states of UP, MP, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar and Delhi on the pleas.
"Tandav" is a nine-episode political thriller starring Bollywood A-listers Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, which started streaming recently.
