Government clears names of Chief Justices for Allahabad, Chhattisgarh and Patna high courts
The new appointments are of Justice Pritinker Diwaker, Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Vinod Chandran
The Central government has consented to three names for appointment as Chief Justices of the Allahabad High Court, Chhattisgarh High Court, and Patna High Court.
The new Chief Justices are Justice Pritinker Diwaker (Allahabad High Court), Justice Ramesh Sinha (Chhattisgarh High Court), and Justice Vinod Chandran (Patna High Court).
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the appointments of Justice Diwaker and Justice Sinha as Chief Justices of Allahabad and Chhattisgarh high courts, respectively, in February. However, Justice Chandran was initially recommended in 2022 as Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court. However, in February, the Collegium recalled the recommendation and proposed his name for Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
Justice Diwaker’s parent court is the Chhattisgarh High Court. He graduated in law from the Durgawati University in Jabalpur and enrolled as an advocate in 1984. He was designated senior advocate in 2005 and elevated to a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court in 2009. Since 2018, he has been a judge of the Allahabad High Court.
Justice Sinha’s parent court is the Allahabad High Court.
Justice Chandran is the senior-most judge of the Kerala High Court. He was sworn in as an additional judge in 2011 and made a permanent judge in 2013. He is due to retire on 24 April 2025.
