Ridima Bhargava

Popularly known as the ‘Business Lawyer’, with more than 13 years of experience, she chairs as the General Counsel and the head of the Public Policy division at FamPay. A practical and a business-first person, Ridima understands the fintech ecosystem as well as the world of start-ups to their very core. She started her journey with FamPay in April 2021 to initiate the first neo-bank for teens. Ridima handles the government as well as industrial relations from a universal-growth perspective.

For the first 6 years after graduating law school, she worked with reputed law firms in their commercial law and capital markets divisions, managing cross-border transactions, private equity, mergers, acquisitions, and regulatory laws. Ridima was offered, in one of India’s biggest and earliest ride-hailing companies, OLA Cabs, the position of Head of Legal at a very early age. With this, Ridima became a part of the elusive group of youngest general counsels of unicorn start-ups in India.

At OLA, she led fund-raising transactions from marquee investors, such as, SoftBank Group, Steadview Capital, Tencent, Temasek, and financing transactions from reputed banks of India to the mark of $1bn. Her praiseworthy work at OLA also included OLA’s acquisition of TaxiForSure, ZipCash, the launch of OLA Money, OLA Café and OLA Store; launch of path-breaking projects on OLA Play, Ola Electric, OLA corporate, OLA Fleet Technologies, bike-taxis, e-rickshaw, OLA Shuttle, OLA Share, OLA Auto.

With Ridima’s expertise and proper guidance, OLA partnered with entities such as Ericsson, Wipro, Mahindra, Nissan, Grofers, and Zomato. Compatible with the space that OLA works in, Ridima played a major role within the in-house policy team which allowed systematic interactions and commitment with governmental bodies.

After her successful tenure with OLA, Ridima transitioned to Gameberry Labs in mid-2017, where she chaired as its General Counsel of Legal, Global Strategy, and Public Policy. Known for its primary game ‘LUDO’, Gameberry Labs claims market-leading expertise in the real-money gaming sector. Ridima’s focus here involved dealing with critical issues across gaming, foreign investment, cross-border structuring, privacy, data protection, and intellectual property laws. One such important litigation comprised an intellectual property claim by Gameberry against Moonfrog Labs. She also led the successful launch of products from Gamberry’s globally, in a period of 3 years, that spanned across the European Union, Middle East, and South America. This also allowed her to work meticulously with the specific federal governments and ensured compliance with GDPR and CCPA laws. Ridima’s praiseworthy work emphasises on realisation that every legal evolution arrives with a number of opportunities to assort and strengthen further. This is a task that is established in the role of a general counsel.

During her successful stint at her previous organisations, Ridima also successfully handled various big-ticket litigations and managed the total lifecycle of these issues. These litigations included antitrust law cases with a value of more than $2bn; licensing litigations, tax litigations, intellectual property cases to the tune of $1bn, etc.

"At a rapidly-growing organisation like FamPay, ensuring creative interpretation of the letter of the law is key to a FinTech’s long-term success – thereby ensuring a fine balance between compliance and innovation"

“Ridima’s work is the desired fusion of business with law for any organisation. Having worked with Ridima, I can certainly say with confidence that her market-leading expertise makes things easier for everyone working with her in any setup. She truly defines how the role of a general counsel is executed, while taking an organisation-first view. She has the ability to instill confidence not just in the team, but also in the minds of investors.”
