Rajeev Dhavan, Senior Counsel, Supreme Court of India, is currently Amicus to the Court in many cases. He has been involved in major cases including the closure of mines in the Sariska Tiger Reserve; Rathong Chu and Tehri Dam; Babri Masjid; sanctuaries including Nagarhole, Narayan Sarovar and Pench; Mandal; and most reservation cases that followed. He was called to the Bar in India and England and has been Amicus to the Court in many matters.
Mr Dhavan was Member, Vice-President and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ). He is the Ex. President of the Cambridge Union (like his father), championing many debating victories including the best debater in the United Kingdom and Ireland in 1969. A former academic, he taught at the Queen’s University, Belfast, Ireland, and at the University of West London, with visiting and other assignments at the Universities of London, Austin, Madison and Delhi. He is a Honorary Professor of the Indian Law Institute and the Director of the Public Interest Legal Support and Research Centre.
Mr Dhavan has a BA, LLB from Allahabad University; MA from Cambridge; and PhD from London University.
