Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas advised McCormick on selling 'Kohinoor' to Adani Wilmar
The acquisition of the rice brand will strengthen the company's portfolio in the premium consumer sector
Indian law firm Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. has advised McCormick & Company in the sale and transfer of intellectual property assets. The deal was related to the 'Kohinoor' brand and sub-brands owned by McCormick Switzerland to Adani Wilmar Limited.
'Kohinoor' is a storied brand in the rice product segment, which was acquired by McCormick & Company in 2011. On the other hand, Adani Wilmar is one of the largest-packaged foods FMCG companies in India.
The acquisition of the brand portfolio comprising 'Kohinoor' (premium basmati rice), 'Charminar' (affordable rice), and 'Trophy' (HoReCa segment) will widen Adani Wilmar's portfolio to cater to the premium customer segments across rice and other value-added food businesses.
The Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas team was led by Mithun V. Thanks (Partner); Mukul Baveja (Partner); Gaurav Dugar (Principal Associate); Nishant Sharma (Principal Associate); Alysha Razvi (Associate); Doorva Tripathi (Associate); and Madhur Chopra (Senior Associate).
