Herbert Smith Freehills Advised Cool Japan Fund On Investment In UK’s Inside Travel Group
Herbert Smith Freehills Advised Cool Japan Fund on Investment in UK’s Inside Travel Group
Herbert Smith Freehills, a leading international law firm, has advised Cool Japan Fund, Inc. (CJF) on its investment in the UK-based Inside Travel Group, alongside Piper Private Equity LLP, a private equity firm based in the UK.
Inside Travel, the UK’s leading Japan travel specialist, will leverage CJF’s investment to expand its reach and cater to high-end travelers visiting Japan from the UK, US, and Australia. The company’s origins trace back to the founders' graduation trip to Japan in the 1990s, and over the past 20 years, they have turned their passion for Japan and Asia into a successful tour operation.
"This successful UK travel company began after a graduation trip to Japan by its founders in the 1990s," said Herbert Smith Freehills Tokyo Partner Joseph Fisher. "Over 20 years, they have built their passion for Japan and Asia into becoming the region's leading specialist tour operator."
Established in 2013, CJF manages assets worth US$1.4 billion across various sectors, including food, clothing, housewares, leisure, local and traditional products, education, and tourism. The public-private fund was set up to promote overseas demand for products and services reflecting the unique aspects of Japanese culture and lifestyle.
"Public-private fund CJF was set up to expand overseas demand for products and services unique to the Japanese lifestyle and culture," said Herbert Smith Freehills London Partner Dylan Doran Kennett. "It's been a pleasure to support its investment in the burgeoning travel sector."
CJF was advised from Tokyo by Partner Joseph Fisher with Associate Alexander Chuprunov, from London by Partner Dylan Doran Kennett, Senior Associate Tom Watkins and Associates William Beynon and Sabry Salama, and from Sydney by Partner Damien Roberts.
