Union Cabinet Reshuffle: Arjun Ram Meghwal Appointed as the New Law Minister

In the recent Union Government cabinet reshuffle, Arjun Ram Meghwal has been appointed as new law minister of India replacing Kiren Rijiju.

President Droupadi Murmu, as advised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has reallocated portfolios among ministers in the Union Council of Ministers, as per the statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Additionally, according to a press communiqué from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Meghwal has been assigned the independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice, in addition to his existing portfolios.

He was previously the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture.

Born on 7th December 1954, Meghwal compeleted his secondary education from the Jawahar Jain Secondary School at Bheenasar.

He has completed his graduation degree in Arts (B.A.) & Law (L.L.B.) from the Sri Dungar College, Bikaner (Rajasthan) and holds a post-graduation Master’s Degree in Arts (M.A) from the same college in. Later, on he attained his Masters in Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the Philippines University.

He entered the administrative services as an IAS officer and gave it up, serving as District Magistrate (Collector) in the Government of Rajasthan, as per his website. He has previously been the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Finance and the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

He was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Bikaner in Rajasthan in 2009 and was a Member of the National Core Committee, Scheduled Castes Morcha of the BJP. He has also been the Vice-President of the BJP in Rajasthan.

On the other hand, Kiren Rijiju has been assigned the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Rijiju took over as the Law and Justice Minister on 8th July, 2021. Prior to this, he served as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Youth Affairs and Sports from May 2019 to July 2021.

Kiren Rijiju will now handle the portfolio of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
