Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi is set to return as the Attorney General of India. This will be his second stint as the Attorney General of India.
He was earlier the Attorney General of India between June 2014 and June 2017.
He was succeeded by Senior Advocate and veteran legal luminary KK Venugopal who was appointed as the Attorney General from July 1, 2017 for a three-year term, which was subsequently extended twice, for a year each.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi is slated to be appointed the fourteenth Attorney General for India after KK Venugopal vacates the post.
KK Venugopal had recently indicated to the Supreme Court that he might not be in office after September 30.
In June this year, the Centre had requested Venugopal to extend his tenure for an additional three months to give them time to find a suitable person to replace him, to which he had agreed.
Rohatgi is expected to assume office from October 1 as Venugopal's tenure officially ends at the end of this month.
