CJI Lalit recommends Justice DY Chandrachud as the next CJI
Incumbent Chief Justice of India (CJI) Uday Umesh Lalit has recommended the name of Justice DY Chandrachud as his successor to become the next CJI.
CJI Lalit wrote to the Central government in this regard, recommending the name of Justice Chandrachud, who is set to have long tenure of two years at the helm.
Earlier today, the incumbent CJI had requested all Supreme Court judges to be present in the judges lounge today by 10.15 am so that the letter recommending Justice DY Chandrachud as the next CJI can be handed over in their presence.
On October 7, the Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju requested the CJI to recommend the name of his successor.
CJI Lalit is slated to demit office on November 8.
Justice Lalit had a very short tenure as CJI having assumed office on August 27 this year, upon the retirement of former CJI NV Ramana.
