Accenture bags $2.6 bn contract to modernize Internal Revenue Service systems
The seven-year agreement is to remodel the structure
The US-based IT management company, Accenture Federal Services has announced that it has secured a $2.6 billion deal with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for modernizing the government tax agency's systems.
The contract has been awarded for seven years and the company will have to compete for future orders to support IRS by creating new options for taxpayers and professionals to interact with the agency.
Earlier, IRS had stated that by next year, it would launch a free, government-provided direct tax filing option that could result in the launch of a full-scale IRS filing system on par with private tax preparers such as TurboTax-parent Intuit.
Intuit recently forecast current-quarter profit below estimates as it prepares to tackle competition by investing in its products.
Sasan Goodrazi, the CEO of Intuit stated, "This is really not a threat at all.” Goodrazi was alluding to IRS’ exploratory study that 72 percent of American taxpayers surveyed were "very interested in" or "somewhat interested in" using a government tool to file their tax returns electronically.
