Miura & Partners expand in Japan with the launch of Nagoya office

Nagoya office is the fifth office of the full-service Japanese firm after three in Tokyo and one in Hiroshima

Miura & Partners, a full-service Japanese law firm, has launched its new office in the country's fourth-largest city Nagoya which became operational on 1 September 2021.

Miura specialises in providing legal advice on dispute resolution and M&A to clients in the Tokai region. The firm has said that through the Nagoya office, it aims to provide 'more comprehensive' legal support to companies in the region in the Tokyo region, in which Nagoya is an important city.

Launched in 2019, Miura & Partners already has three offices in Tokyo and another in Hiroshima.

The Nagoya team comprises four lawyers including partners Shunichi Kamiya, Keiko Komatsu and Tomoyuki Matsui and counsel Yoshie Sakono.

All three partners advise clients on M&A and corporate governance and commercial disputes, though each has its areas of focus including finance, employment and labour regulation and technology and entertainment. Sakono, on the other hand, focuses on disputes, crisis management and tax law.

The firm has not named any of the three partners as head of its Nagoya office, asserting that since each of these lawyers are highly skilled in their respective fields, it has intentionally decided against creating a hierarchical relationship.

Miura & Partners currently has further plans of expansion, although it said that its immediate focus is on creating maximum impact with the existing team of 44 partners and 17 associates.

The firm is currently in the process of launching the "Asia Project" at the beginning of October 2021. Led by partner Ryoichi Inoue, head of the Southeast Asia/South Asia practice, and based in Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City, the project is meant to provide 'one-stop full coverage service' for companies doing business in the region.
