King & Spalding's recruitment of Stephen Sims, a partner at the top London firm, to work on its private funds and alternative capital practice made headlines in the financial capital. Having managed Skadden's European investment management division, Sims has joined the firm from MJ Hudson and will continue to advice on fund creation for private equity, real assets, infrastructure and energy funds and fund-related mergers and acquisitions as well.
According to him, "This is a fascinating workplace because the company is expanding in all stages of the private capital lifecycle. Rather than focusing on private equity, hedge funds, or any other specific type of private investor, we now consider private capital, which encompasses all of these but also includes individual investors."
Sims is just the most recent hire in King & Spalding's European corporate, finance, and investments practice. London welcomed Amit Kataria and Paul Barron in October, while Paris and Frankfurt also saw substantial new hires.
"When you look at the business, it is drawing some great young people and it has got the ability to deliver the whole lifecycle guidance to a fund manager, including investment management, secondaries, disputes, and exits", Sims elaborated. "To that end, I looked for a firm that could provide its services in all of the most important regions of the world," he added.
