One of the top United Arab Emirates (UAE) lawyers Dr. Habib Al Mulla has said that he will not say sorry for a series of controversial social media comments that led to his departure from Baker McKenzie.

Following his remarks, Baker McKenzie issued a statement that the firm and Dr. Al Mulla would be "parting ways." The lawyer agreed to quit the firm after the Twitter posts.

In a new Twitter post, Dr. Al Mulla said, "Although we did break ways with Baker McKenzie, we will continue to operate as an independent firm and provide our clients with the same level of service they have come to expect. However, out of respect for the friendship, I will keep quiet and avoid commenting on Baker McKenzie. We will begin the separation and exit negotiations next week."

Dr. Al Mulla is a highly-respected legal authority in the region. He has over 38 years of experience in UAE laws and has drafted many of the modern legislative structures presently prevalent in Dubai.

A strong advocate for the improvement and modernization of the UAE laws, he is a frequent commentator on the legislation and economy of the region. Dr. Al Mulla is often consulted to draft and advise on federal and emirate-level laws.

The lawyer created the concept of financial free zones in the UAE and was the architect of the legal framework establishing the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the first financial free zone in the UAE. He also served as the Chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA).
